The Future of Women's Health: From Awareness to Action

Awareness campaigns have taught a generation of women the names of the conditions that affect them. But awareness is only the beginning. This opening keynote asks what it takes to move from knowing to doing — how women, clinicians and systems can turn information into earlier diagnosis, better care and lives genuinely changed. Dr Naledi Khumalo draws on fifteen years at the front line to map a hopeful, practical path forward.

So much of women's health lives in silence — the period pain never mentioned, the low mood never named, the symptom endured rather than spoken. Clinical psychologist Dr Mariam Njoroge explores why these silences form, what they cost, and how we begin — as families, clinicians and communities — to make it safe for women to say the true sentence out loud.

A cross-disciplinary panel — endocrinology, surgery, physiotherapy and nutrition — tackles the hard question directly: what actually needs to change for women's health to improve at scale? Moderated by Dr Amara Okonkwo, the panel debates access, education, research funding and the everyday clinical culture that shapes how women are heard.

Specialist surgeon Dr Chipo Marufu makes the case for prevention as empowerment — screening, self-awareness and early action — and shows how simple, well-communicated steps can change the trajectory of breast and cervical health for a whole community.
